Getting Here

Ballarat is 112 kilometres, or around 75 - minutes drive north-west of Melbourne, via the Western Highway, and less if travelling from Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport or Geelong's Avalon Airport.

Car hire with major car rental companies is available from both airports, or take the Ballarat Airport Shuttle Bus from Tullamarine Airport.

The scenic route is another option, with equally direct access via the Western, Midland, Glenelg and Sunraysia Highways, which radiate from Ballarat and connect to Melbourne, Adelaide, Geelong, Portland, Bendigo and Mildura.

An alternative is a relaxing train journey from Melbourne's Southern Cross Station, which takes around one hour, 24 minutes - or just over an hour on the new Velocity train service - pulling into Ballarat's grand circa 1888 railway station, a prime example of late 19th century railway buildings.

Getting Around

Getting around Ballarat is easy - the city is well signposted and easy to navigate. Ballarat's CBD, built around a well-planned grid, has ample parking.

Local bus services run from Sturt Street, the city's main thoroughfare, to most Ballarat's attractions.
