Romantic Getaway - Two Days
Day One
Your weekend commences with a tour of Spa Country and Goldfields regions on the way to Ballarat.
Drop in and say 'hello' to the May family at Captains Creek Organic Winery in Blampied. You will be able to purchase some fantastic organic wines and produce for your weekend away.
Arrive at The Tangled Maze & Mistydowns Nursery in Creswick and cavort in one of the botanical mazes, followed by morning tea in the gardens.
Arrive in Ballarat, find an easily available park in Sturt Street and grab some delicious lunch at a chic cafe.
After lunch and a relaxing coffee, make your way up Lydiard Street to the Art Gallery of Ballarat where you will be given a guided tour of Australia's largest and most comprehensive collection of Australian art of all regional galleries.
Check into your accommodation, Ballarat offers a multitude of accommodation choices ranging from the modest to the magnificent. Choose from lavish hotel accommodation, historic bed and breakfasts tucked away in the city's leafy streets and charming boutique getaways.
Wander down Lydiard Street and be amazed by the splendour of the stunning Victorian architecture to one of the city's trendy restaurants for a romantic dinner for two.
Pop on your winter woollies for the Ballarat Eerie Ghost Tour where you will spend the evening exploring the dark and paranormal side of Ballarat or be amazed by the spectacular light and sound show Blood on the Southern Cross at Sovereign Hill.
Day Two
Enjoy breakfast in your hotel, or explore one of the many inner city cafes.
Collect your iPods from the Art Gallery of Ballarat for the self-guided tour of the Sturt Street statues, followed by coffee at the Known World Bookshop, a quality second hand and collectables shop.
Collect your bikes and picnic hamper from Craig's Royal Hotel and cycle along the Lake Wendouree foreshore. Set up your picnic in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens and enjoy a leisurely romantic lunch in the peaceful surrounds.
After a relaxing lunch and more exploring, it's time to get back to Melbourne in time to prepare for another busy working week.
