Cultural Getaway - Two Days

Day One

Arrive at Kirrit Barreet Aboriginal Art and Cultural Centre where you will discover many facts from the time lines of Ballarat, Wathaurong, Kulin, Koori, and Australian Aboriginal people.  The museum displays information about Aboriginal Australia, Koori people and the Wathaurong tribe, as well as displays of traditional artefacts and view interactive shows on Aboriginal culture.

After lunch and a relaxing coffee, make your way up Lydiard Street to the Art Gallery of Ballarat.  The gallery possesses the largest and most comprehensive collection of Australian art of all regional galleries.

Check into your accommodation, Ballarat offers a multitude of accommodation choices ranging from the modest to the magnificent.  Choose from lavish hotel accommodation, self-contained family friendly apartments, two and three-star hotels, historic bed and breakfasts tucked away in the city's leafy streets, charming boutique getaways and tourist-only holiday parks.

Wander down Lydiard Street absorbing the splendour of the stunning Victorian architecture before stopping in at one of the city's boutique restaurants for some dinner.

Day Two

Enjoy the relaxing scenery of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens as you make your way to Pipers on the Parade where you will enjoy breakfast on the Lake's foreshore.

Collect your iPods from the Art Gallery of Ballarat for the self-guided tour of the Sturt Street statues, followed by coffee at the Known World Bookshop, a quality second hand and collectables shop.

Head to the Eureka Centre - the site of one of the most significant events in the evolution of Australian democracy - the Eureka Rebellion.  As well as being one of Victoria's popular tourist destinations, The Centre provides a national focus for debate about, and the interpretation of, the Eureka story.
