Ballarat has a fantastic array of retail offerings with the convenience of country living. Residents enjoy the practicality of seven day a week (and seven nights a week in many cases) grocery shopping with large Supermarket chains such as Coles, Safeway and Bilo centrally located. The main shopping area lies in the heart of Ballarat, in the area bounded by Sturt Street, Bridge Street Mall and Central Square Shopping Centre (just off Sturt Street). Here you'll find small specialty shops, such as those selling homeware, antiques, books and fashion located side-by-side with larger chain stores.

Stockland Wendouree is another popular shopping destination. The shopping complex to the north west of the city accounts for almost 20 per cent of all retail spending in Ballarat. Other suburban hubs, such as Sebastopol and Mt Helen, boast their own community shopping areas.
