From VFL football to international standard cycling competitions, Ballarat's variety of sporting opportunities leaves even the fanatics satisfied.
A sports smorgasbord - Ballarat sports clubs and events seems endless, boosted by a range of quality sporting facilities.
The list of facilities includes golf courses, gymnasiums, leisure centres, indoor aquatic centres, athletics track, lakes, stadiums, ovals, bowls and croquet lawns, bowling alleys, motor sport venues, mountain bike courses, outdoor swimming pools, tennis badminton and squash complexes.
Local sporting opportunities include football, cricket, netball, basketball, cycling, tennis, golf, horse-racing, athletics, rowing, bowls, squash, soccer, baseball, croquet, fishing and swimming.
Throughout the year, Ballarat is the focus of major spectator sporting events such as the Ballarat Cup (horseracing), the Ballarat Football League and Central Highlands Football grand finals and the Ballarat Australian Cycling Grand Prix.
The city is home to many Olympic champions, and hosts international and national titles in a variety of sports.
Ballarat actively participates in statewide league competitions, boasting the North Ballarat Football Club in the Victorian Football league, the Ballarat Miners in the Australian Basketball Association and Ballarat Pride in the Victorian State Netball League.
